Orissa finish overall 3rd in East Zone Athletics Meet

A 59-member Orissa squad finished overall third, bagging a total of 45 medals in the 22nd East Zone Junior Athletics Championship, which concluded at Ranchi today. West Bengal emerged overall champions, while host Jharkhand occupied the second position.

Orissa’s total collection included 15 gold, 16 silver and 14 bronze medals. The third and last day fetched them four golds, two silvers and three bronzes. Among the leading medallists, Rabi Das, Ranjita Mahanta, Anil Kumar Das and Dutee Chand bagged a golden double each.

ORISSA MEDAL WINNERS:

GOLD: Girls-20: Banabasini Behera (5000m run). Boys-20: Rabi Das (100m run and long jump). Girls-18: Ranjita Mahanta (100m run and 200m run), Purnima Hembram (100m hurdles). Boys-18: Anil Kumar Das (110m hurdles and 400m hurdles), Bikash Dung Dung (800m run). Girls-16: Dutee Chand (100m run, 200m run). Boys-16: Chinmay Ranjan Jena (Discus), Bhandu Oram (3000m run). Girls-14: Kishori Lakra (Shotput), Sekunta Kullu (Long jump).

SILVER: Boys-20: Subhasis Nayak (Long jump), Chaitanya Prasad Tudu (1500m run). Girls-18: Rose Dipika Baa (Long jump), Ranjita Mahanata, Bibiana Kulu, Dulari Kisku, Sailendri Nag (Medley relay). Boys-18: Firoz Dung Dung (5000m run), Ananda Majhi (110m hurdles), Khirasindhu Dharua, C Murmu, Manmohan Mahanta, Bikash Dung Dung (Medly relay). Girls-16: Soni Kumari (800m run), Sumi Oram (100m hurdles), Sumi Oram, Dutee Chand, Ranjita Hembram, Suman Jena (Medlay relay). Boys-16: Susanta Lakra (800m run), Chinmaya Ranjan Jena (Javelin), Rajat Ranjan Mohapatra, Dhan Kumar Nag, Susanta Lakra, George Kerketta (Medley relay). Boys-14: Dhanajay Majhi (100m run), Jitendra Marandi (Trithlon), Suresh Lakra (600m run).

BRONZE: Girls-20: Reena Baa (100m hurdles), Kritimayee Mohapatra (5000m run). Boys-20: Chaitan Prasad Tudu (800m run), Susil Sharma (3000m steeple chase). Girls-18: Dulari Kisku (400m run), Bibiana Kullu (100m run), Sairendri Nag (400m hurdles). Boys-18: Bikash Dung Dung (1500m run), Chandan Murmu (400m run).
